Commercial Tobacco Risks for NC’s LGBTQIA+ Population + Free Resources to Quit

Thanks to new webpages, NC's LGBTQIA+ population can learn the risks of commercial tobacco use and take steps to improve their health.

The LGBTQIA+ population is more likely to experience bullying or abuse. This population is also more likely to use commercial tobacco to cope.

Quitting smoking or vaping is one of the hardest things you can do. It is important for all North Carolinians to have access to affirming care and resources they need to feel supported. 

Launch of the LGBTQIA+ Webpages 

The NC Division of Public Health’s LGBTQIA+ webpages are now live! They offer a no-judgment space for people, communities, and organizations interested in:

  • Learning about commercial tobacco use in North Carolina's LGBTQIA+ population.
  • Resources for getting help to quit tobacco.

If you’re trying to quit smoking or vaping, you’re not alone. About 35,000 North Carolinians have used the state’s free resources to quit.

Riley, a person who previously used tobacco products and vapes, shares their struggle with commercial tobacco use and how they were able to quit. “Here I am at 30 years, not smoking, and can absolutely attest that it gets better,” Riley said.
